Anna Lois (Nan) Tubbs Wilmer passed away peacefully on July 20, 2010, at her home in Bayfield, Colo.
Anna Lois was born December 21, 1926, in Farmington, N.M., to Arthur and Beulah Stephenson Tubbs. At the age of five she and her family of three brothers and four sisters moved to Allison, Colo. There she attended grammar school and later she graduated from Durango High School with the class of 1944. She attended the Mercy Cadet Nursing Program in Denver, Colo. After a short time Anna Lois returned to Durango, where she met her eternal mate and husband Harold Burtner Wilmer.
On March 16, 1945, after six weeks of courtship, they eloped to Gallup, N.M. This marriage was later solemnized for time and all eternity on June 30, 1962, in the Mesa Arizona Temple. Harold and Nan made their home on the Wilmer Farm in Bayfield, Colo., where they raised 7 of their 10 children. They are Stan E. Wilmer of Aurora, Colo.; Susan Hilliard of Huntington, Utah; Barbara Thatcher of Pima, Ariz.; Jay N. Wilmer of Bayfield, Colo.; Cheryl Jorgensen of Castle Dale, Utah; and Rebecca Potter of Bayfield, Colo. She has 38 grandchildren and 52 great-grandchildren.
Anna was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints Bayfield Ward. She taught primary for many years. She taught people inside and outside of the church how to do genealogy. She compiled books for genealogy containing census and marriage records for public and private use. Anna sewed and donated several hundred blankets for the Humanitarian Program sponsored by the L.D.S church. These blankets have been sent all over the world.
Anna is preceded in death by her parents and siblings, her husband of 57 years, Harold, and their four children Joann, Harold (Burt), Gary and Joleen.
Viewing will be held from 2-8 p.m. Thursday, July 29, 2010, at Hood Mortuary in Durango, Colo. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, July 30, 2010, at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints Bayfield Ward. Interment will be at the Pine River Cemetery.
